Every year we plant parsley because the boys know that we will get parsley worms on them. These "worms" spin cocoons and then become black swallowtail butterflies. The boys like to catch them, but them in a bug jar and watch the metamorphosis. Then we let them go on the butterfly bush in the backyard. Our first butterfly just emerged...Enjoy!

We're still waiting for the last 2 to come out. Sometimes they over winter, so we may not see these ones until spring! So for now they are just hangin' out (literally) with the chives behind the kitchen sink!

so you let them go in the house?
Yep...they don't fly much when they first come out, their wings are too wet. They are usually just sitting on the stick fanning their wings. The boys have fun letting them crawl on them for a while and then we let them go.
