Cake Disaster

So Josh has a birthday coming up in a couple of months and he gets a party this year (we do a friend party every other year). He is trying to decide what kind of party he wants, a pirate party, or a Star Wars party. He has decided that it all depends on the kind of cake that I can make. He told me that if I can make an AT AT cake, then he wants a Star Wars party. I have previously made him a death star cake and a ghost cake that both turned out pretty well (for someone who knows nothing about cake decorating!), so he thinks the AT AT will be no problem. He said, "Mom, you are the best cake maker, I know you can do it!". Well, today I decided to give the AT AT cake a go....it was a disaster!!! I think that maybe we will be having the pirate party this year....

Here is the cool Death Star cake...notice the guns are firing!

Here is the ghost cake...

And here is the AT AT (known henceforth and forevermore as the disaster cake!) The frosting wouldn't stay on because the cake had been cut, the head kept falling off and I ran out of frosting so his legs look suspiciously like toilet paper rolls! Hope you all get a good laugh!

FUN WITH COOKIES

The boys had fun the other day making cookies. Especially when they loaded on the frosting!

FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL

Today was the first day of school. Chris and Josh were up at the crack of dawn...the big claps of thunder I am sure is what rolled them out of bed! It is a soggy, wet, rainy day here. We splashed out to the bus just in time to put them on it. Then we headed over to the school to take a couple of pictures. Josh was okay with that, but I think Chris was a little embarrassed. I guess no more mom in the class for him anymore...

Here are a few pictures...more to come...

Today is the last day of summer vacation. Tomorrow the boys head back to school. Chris and Josh are excited to start (SO AM I!!!). They got to meet their teachers last night and see their classrooms. Chris is especially excited because this year he gets a locker!

Here are some pictures of them enjoying the last few days of their summer!

More Sunday Fun

We seem to have great adventures at church lately. This past Sunday as we arrived at church and were walking into the building Ben started crying. When we looked at him there was a hornet buzzing around his face and we thought he was scared. I shooed it away and we went inside. Ben kept crying so I sat on the chair in the foyer and asked what was wrong. He pointed between his eyes and said the bee got him. I looked and couldn't see a stinger, no redness, nothing so I thought that he was making it up. We went in and sat down. A few minutes into the meeting Ben started whimpering again and I looked down at him and his face was swelling up!!! The bridge of his nose was gone from the swelling. I took him out to the kitchen and found some ice and a towel and gave it to him to put in his nose. Poor guy...I guess the hornet really did get him. He was swollen for the rest of the day, but back to normal by Monday!!!

Summer Fun

Our air conditioner konked out on us on Wednesday, so of course the temp had to be 95 degrees that day (over 100 with the humidity figured in!!). We spent the afternoon outside in the sprinklers....

Check it out....
